Ashleigh grew up in Whistler, Canada, chasing the boys down mountains on bikes and skis.  Her potential as an athlete became apparent at an early age, and her competitive drive landed her on the podium through summers and winters alike.  Originally an alpine ski racer, Ashleigh’s wild side got the best of her and steered her ski career toward freeskiing… big lines, powder, and cliffs… in perfect time to prepare her for the sport she was clearly destined to represent her country in: Ski Cross.

Skicross became Ashleigh’s new-found passion in January 2003.  She immediately saw success, winning the US Free-skiing Open in Vail, qualifying for the X Games, and placing 2nd in her first World Cup as the youngest competitor in the sport at that time.  Clearly a natural when it comes to sports, it turned out she was also a natural in front of the camera.   This drew TV producers to pick Ashleigh as the athlete to speak with and made her the new face of this high intensity, made for TV sport.  She got used to racing with a mic on her jersey and quickly became an ambassador for the new sport.

2008/2009 was a big year for Ashleigh, her first ever full season of racing on the World Cup circuit. She was in the finals for 5 out of the 6 races, and won a World Championship. Her strong results on the Olympic track at Cypress and the World Championship in Japan landed Ashleigh on the Canadian Olympic team competing at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.

Once the 2010 season began there was no question that Ashleigh was ready to win.  She finished ranked 2nd overall, and made it to the finals in 8 of the 12 races, with a World Cup victory under her belt, as well as a medal at the X Games.  One of Canada’s Golden Girls, Ashleigh recently realized a dream she’s been chasing her whole life when she became the first ever Olympic Champion in the sport of Skicross in Vancouver 2010 - fulfilling what had seemed like a far off dream just a few years before.
